Just in time for Valentine’s day, Justin Timberlake has given his fans a little gift in the form of a new video for “Suit & Tie” the new single from new album, The 20/20 Experience.

Shot in stark black-and-white by director David Fincher, the video toggles between studio and concert footage of a tuxedoed Timberlake flanked by his band and orchestra and horn section, backup singers, and, of course, Jay Z himself, all dressed to the nines while cooly dancing under the bright lights (and a symmetrical array of lasers!) on stage. It’s a look that Timberlake’s been using in the imagery for his return to music — most recently in his performance during this year’s Grammy Awards — and recalls the sleek fashion and glamor of classic Hollywood (or even Janelle MonĂ¡e).

And while Fincher has not always been known for his stylistic restraint in his films, this simple performance-based video is, at least for him, a masterclass in minimalism that puts the focus on the performance and the song rather than showy pyrotechnics. Ultimately, it’s anevocative video that perfectly illustrates the equally retro and forward-looking production, lush instrumentation and classy crooning that Timberlake showcases in this new song.
