30 Min Workout – Mr. Prolific

hello.musicOK so maybe i’ll make this 30 min workout thing a little bit of a feature.. or it will slowely fade away.. But not before I get a few under my belt!

Here is my second try at cranking something out with minimal work on time. My goal here is to get 3 or 4 of these done through this weekend and then expand or finish two of them for the end of the month.. sound reasonable?

Did I mention how much I LOVE this abbey road instrument pack for Reason? ..

30 Min Workout – MMW Craptastic

hello.music
So I came home today with the urge to play some music. I think my neglect over the past month or so has finally caught up to me. I only had an hour before I had to shower up and run out again so I decided to do a quick improvisation with myself and see what I could record and mix in 30 minutes. This track (in all its roughness) literally began from nothing at 6:10 and was rendered from Live at 6:40. All first takes.

Yes I need a new title and yes I know the bass doesnt line up for half the thing but thats not the point..

Oh and its amazing that I already have a blister on my finger.. oh old times… But I am thinking of trying to do this on a more frequent basis.. to help sharpen my quick songwriting skills and to keep sharp on musical things..

On My Way to Internet Celebrityness – Step 1 – Increase “Google” Exposure.

It was brought to my attention today that I have moved one step closer to internet stardom. The Google Street Team happened to be driving by one fateful day outside my office when a coworker and I happened to be moving a case from a ups truck. This sequence of events has led to my immortalization in the land of the internet (or at least until they update their street images)

As you all know it’s hard becoming an internet celebrity. You really have to do something to make yourself stand out from the rest of the yokels out there. And Google street view is my ticket to riches!

Check it out here:

hello.music – Digital Interlude

hello.music
Hello all.. so aryns been busy with things blah blah excuses.. but to maybe help make it up here is one from my archives. I made this using a casio keyboard, and electric guitar and some effects pedals.. I like how it turned out.. even though I made it a few years ago.

is this cheating for our embarrasingly late and meager sept ep?

Old Things That Are New To Me: Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place

So this little gem of a show was shown to me last weekend at a friend of a friends house. It was only on British television for one season, and I believe you can find it on DVD somewhere if you own a region-less player.

The premise is simple, an ex horror writer made a tv show back in the eighties, which was canceled, and since there is now a void of good television they asked him to bring the actors back for interviews and to replay the show. They solve mysteries surrounding the “Dark Hotel”. It follows the premise of crappy production value + dead pan acting = good comedy.

I’ve only watched one episode so far, but this thing looks like a winner in hiding. The main guy ( who plays both the “Writer” Garth Marenghi and the main character Dr. Rick Dagless M.D.) is played by Mathew Holness, who you may also remember as the IT guy Simon from the British version of The Office.

Anyway, do a little search around the video sites (i.e. tv links) in your area and check it out. Good entertainment for you and your friends.

Here is the opening title segment to give you the feel of the show:

hello.music — War of the Crickets

hello.music

Hello Everyone.. In my attempt to get off my arse and stay on top of songs for the month of August (looking for that actual Aug 31/Sept 1st Launch this time) I decided to sit down and hammer out this little sketch I dreamt up. Standard Crowley fair, with single recorded acoustic guitar chords and electronic drums. I decided to effect the crap out of this guitar as to get a little different base to start from.

Anyway, enjoy some digitally bitcrushed bugs in their conquest for world domination.

Think you guys can/want to add some stuff to this? As for right now its pretty wide open to discussion..

hello.music – Sequel Pending

hello.music

Well it July is here and almost over, and I don’t have much to show for it yet. Here is my first attempt at a chord structure I have been throwing around. Sorry for the shitty synth lines, but I thought it needed something in there. Anyway, this one’s is called “Sequel Pending” and I assume that it will someday have a sequel added to it .. which at this point in time is in “pending” status. This is version .5:

UPDATE: 7/22

Ok, so I sat down and actually tracked out this whole thing.. complete with chorus, verses and sans drum loops. Now to fill in the rest…

hello.music – Puppets are my Friends (the Aryn version 1)

hello.musicHere we go ladies and gents, my very first hello.cover version 1. From Greg Johnsons world through my fingers and vocal chords it makes its debut to the internets. I am likeing how this is turning out so far.. Going for that jovial, almost I’m From Barcelona type sound, which I think i’m hitting? Keep in mind I havent done any proper mixing yet, but here it is in it’s unfinished glory. Now with backing female vocals by Sue Burrington!

Recommended Listenings (or at least what I listened to yesterday)

These are the 3 albums that I threw on yesterday while processing work related business reports… Check em out when you have time, or don’t .. its your dollar/ears.

A Ghost is Born by Wilco

Coming off of getting to see them in DC last weekend, (thanks to a random series of business trips, random timing of free tickets, and general aligning of cosmic musical forces) I decided to throw this oldie back on the digital turntable ( i.e. iTunes). They were really great to see live, it was a little strange actually seeing them in person after only listening to them in recent years soley through albums and DVDs. Their set was energetic, rocking and a good time to be had by all. Living in Chicago its really hard to get tickets when they are here, so it was great to finally be able to see them in person.

TNT by Tortoise
Revisted this one as well, partially because Mike recently recorded a for the June Cover month ep, and also because its down at the botton of my alphabetical list close to “W” for Wilco.

Loon by Tapes ‘n Tapes

This was one of those records that I picked up on a whim while perusing at the record store next to my hair cutting store where I get my sidecars, and rear parts cut. It was playing in the store, and sounded at least intriguing, and after some recommendation from the store owner I brought home my very own shiny copy. All in all a decent record, entertaining, with a few tracks (namely Manitoba ) that shine out among the others. I really have no clue if they have released anything since this one. Maybe I should look into that…

Enjoy musics!
